Mycenae & Epidaurus Day Tour
The Ancient Olympia Day Tour offers an exciting 9-hour exploration of Greece’s cultural treasures. Begin with a visit to the Corinth Canal, an engineering marvel connecting the Aegean and Ionian Seas. Next, explore the ancient Lions Gate of Mycenae, a striking entrance to the ancient city. Continue to the charming town of Nafplion, where you can admire the Bourtzi Fortress overlooking the sea. The tour also includes a visit to the remarkable Epidavrus Theater, famous for its acoustics, and the Little Theatre of ancient Epidaurus. This tour combines archaeological wonders, historic landmarks, and scenic beauty for an unforgettable day.

The Corinth Canal is an artificial waterway in Greece that links the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea to the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth, effectively separating the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland, and is often considered to turn the peninsula into an island.

The Lion Gate is the primary entrance to the Acropolis of Mycenae, the heart of Mycenaean Civilization. Constructed in the mid-13th century BC, it was built during the second phase of fortification expansion in Mycenae, when Atreus ruled as king.

Famous for the Bourtzi, a small fortress located on an island in the port, Nafplio's castle was converted into a hotel in 1930, operating until 1970. Today, along with Palamidi, it stands as a symbol of the city. Palamidi, a Venetian fortress, overlooks the city, while Akronafplia (also known as Its-Kale in Turkish) is another Venetian fortress situated on the eponymous peninsula. It was at the entrance of the charming church of Agios Spyridon that Ioannis Kapodistrias was tragically assassinated.

The ancient theater of Epidaurus is situated at the southeastern edge of the sanctuary dedicated to Asclepius, the healing god of antiquity, within the Asclepieion of Epidaurus. Built on the western slope of Mount Kinortio, the theater is near the modern town of Ligourio in Argolida and is part of the Municipality of Epidaurus.

The Small Theater of Epidaurus, located in an area called Nisi near the port of Palea Epidaurus, once served as the theater of the ancient city-state. In addition to hosting dramatic performances, it was also a venue for religious and political events. Discovered in the early 1970s beneath a field of olive trees, the theater is currently undergoing restoration, highlighting its historical importance.
